1. Giving up too easily.
This is the most common mistake people make. They build a site, spend a week or two trying to get traffic and sales and when they don't get immediate results, they simply give up. Or they try a new idea out and give up too quickly.
2. Not adapting.
The internet changes rapidly. If you do not adapt your methods, you will fall behind the competition. Some people do not like change, but to fully reach your potential online you have to adapt. I was very guilty of this at times. I often kept employing old methods of getting traffic instead of adapting to new methods. As a result, my traffic would continue to slowly dwindle until I embraced the new methods.
3. Not seeing or seizing opportunities.
If a new program comes along that people are having success with you should take advantage of the opportunity. You need to recognize any opportunity and take advantage of it. You may get an email from someone offering you something and because you are busy you think "I'll check it out later." And it gets lost in your inbox and when you notice it weeks later, the opportunity is gone. Always be looking for new opportunities. Try to visit website and marketing related forums regularly as well as stay in contact with other active marketers and colleagues.
4. Making websites about a subject you have no interest in.
Now this doesn't mean you should never make a website around a profitable idea you have that involves a subject you don't have interest in. It just means you should have at least a decent amount of interest in most of your websites that are long term projects. The third website I ever made was by far my most profitable and still makes me some decent money, but I wasn't really interested in the subject. It became a chore and a grind to maintain it, promote it, update it, you name it.
5. Becoming disorganized.
Try to keep things organized. Spending an hour each week organizing things will save you at least that much time each week not having to search for things and will simply make you more productive. It is easy to get overwhelmed in this industry and having a cluttered environment around you and even on your PC can make you feel even more overwhelmed with work.
A lot of these are very basic, but sometimes we still need to be reminded of them.
